Is this a Blue-headed Vireo?

Recommended Posts

Nice pictures!

Yes, this is an adult Blue-headed Vireo. Note the chunky appearance, thick, hooked bill, blue-gray head which contrasts with olive-green back and has bold white "spectacles." Also note the clean white breast and belly and yellow flanks. Blue-headed Vireos really have a blue-gray, not blue, head.

The only really similar bird is the Cassin's Vireo, which has a less contrasty overall and is uncommon in your range.

Thank you, akandula. I am glad I was right. I saw a Cassin's Vireo here in Vancouver. BC, a few weeks ago for the first time, but it had less contrasty as you say.
