one more ecuador bird for ID

This is a pretty tricky ID. I would call this a White-lined Tanager (Tachyphonus rufus). While males are glossy black with a sliver of white on the shoulder, females are uniform brown overall.

  • I would think that White-shouldered Tanagers, even the least conspicuous, would show a more contrasty, larger white shoulder patch.
  • I would think that Ruby-crowned Tanagers, at this state of raising head feathers, would show a little ruby on the head and also lack the white shoulder patch.
