Ireland bird catching dragonfly

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I'm hoping to find out what bird I took a photo of during my trip to Ireland. Any help is welcome! Saw it in the summer on the Dingle peninsula, just after it caught a dragonfly.

This is a Common Chaffinch, possibly an immature male. Males are distinctive, with a bluish cowl, pink face and breast, and black-and-white wing pattern. Females are drabber but note the wing pattern. When in flight, you probably noticed its flashy outer tail feathers.

Thank you! I was thinking some sort of finch but the juvenile colors really threw me off. Did some googling and you are definitely correct 🙂
