Western sandpipers?

Recommended Posts

In Charleston Slough, Mountain View, CA. At dusk.

The third picture looks a bit different than the first two, due to the brown patch beneath and behind the eye.

1 and 2. Nonbreeding Least Sandpiper - note the very small size, yellow legs, thin, decurved black bill, brownish upperparts, and smudgy brown breast.

3. Nonbreeding adult/juvenile Black-bellied Plover - note the heavy body, thick neck, and stubby bill.

Western Sandpipers have longer droopier bills.
