I need help with this sparrow

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I'm new to this forum and no where being a bird expert, just someone who enjoys taking pictures of birds.

I too need help identifying a sparrow.  This is either a Lincoln or Song.  Can anybody help me out with identifying it?

This bird was spotted in Atasadero, CA (on the Central Coast).

Thanks for any help anyone can give me.

With the buffy malar and flanks, it looks good for a Lincoln's.

Welcome to the forum, @kleve1972!

I agree with Lincoln's Sparrow. Note the neat appearance with fine, crisp streaks, gray face with pale eyering, and buffy wash across breast. Like @HamRHead said, Song Sparrows would have coarser streaking and lack the buffy wash across the breast.

Just to note, the sparrow in the background is a White-crowned Sparrow.

Good catch. I never noticed the second sparrow.

Thanks for the welcome and helping me identify my bird.  I will definitely start on new post on the next one.

Thanks again

@akandula, thanks for welcome to the forum.  Still new to this, so it will take me a while to get used how it works. Especially with replying to other members.
