Pam
We have put up a bird feeder in our backyard and would like some help in identifying our visitors. Can someone tell me what kind of bird this is? Are these two different birds?
egosnell2002
All are house sparrows. The first three are all of a male, and the last is of a male on the right and a female on the left.
Pam
Thank you. We also had a pair of cardinals, a mockingbird(?), and a dove. I love listening to the mockingbird. The smaller birds (sparrows) seemed to pick on the dove. Is this usual behavior?
NatalieB
I love the pictures! We have house sparrows and mourning doves that come to our feeder too. The sparrows are scrappy little things that can hold their own, even against the larger doves. I also love listening to mockingbirds, especially at night. I know most people can't stand them, but it's like a lullaby to me. Edited October 11, 2019 by NatalieB
Charlie Spencer
Mockingbirds can be pushy too. They're very territorial and will defend a food source (feeders, fruit-bearing trees and shrubs), but they usually move around and don't dominate a source for more than a few minutes at a time.
