Indigo vs Grosbeak

Recommended Posts

This one is confusing me although I am probably overthinking it.

It doesn't;t have the whitish throat of indigos but it has a brown and white two-tone body color. It almost fits lazuli but this picture has been taken this morning near Houston so we are a bit out or range. comments?

Thanks in advance

Maybe it's the photos but I'd expect more prominent wingbars for a female Indigo, and a darker bill.  I like female Blue Grosbeak because of color, lack of streaking, and range, but definitely wait for confirmation.  I could see a case for a wayward Lazuli but I don't think there's enough wingbar and the neck is too dark.

I think this looks fine for a female/immature Indigo Bunting -- the throat color is variable, and the bill/wingbars are supposed to be that color.

Blue Grosbeaks always have far heavier bills and Lazuli Buntings have bolder, buffier wingbars.

Don't Lazulis have whiter wing bars?

Yes, that’s what I meant to say. Thanks for the clarification.
