RobinHood
Southern Ontario this morning. Not sure about this one - are the tan markings on the wings significant? Thanks.
The Bird Nuts
Looks fine for a Hermit. I'm not completely sure, but I think they have those pale tips to the wing coverts in fresh plumage and they eventually get worn down.
sfinmt
For discussion, Nat. Geo points to the buffy-tipped wing coverts on 1st year Gray-cheeked.
The Bird Nuts
National Geographic also says adult Hermit Thrushes have "cinnamon greater coverts tips in fresh plumage." https://www.nationalgeographic.com/animals/birds/h/hermit-thrush/
RobinHood
22 minutes ago, The Bird Nuts said: Looks fine for a Hermit. Thanks @The Bird Nuts. The tail was essentially the same colour as the rest of the back and the eye-ring was definitely less distinct than normal, so I wondered. I would expect to see Hermit at this location but it didn't look quite typical to me. Another image attached. So a "muted" Hermit to go along with my recent "crisp" Song Sparrow? Thanks again. birdbrain22
Those buffy tips are evident on all first year Cathrus thrushes... this is a first year Hermit Thrush.
