Western Lexington County, central SC.  Nov. 13th, 2019.  Only shot.  Other than turning its head, the bird never moved.

Edge of the wooded portion of a partially developed industrial park.  Mixed pine / hardwood around open, wide road shoulders, brushy fields cleared for later development, and large grass lawns around light industry.

I'm going with Coop over Sharpie based on the upright posture and the streaking stopping before reaching the belly.   It was a cold day so the bird stayed down over its legs.  I couldn't get around the back without entering private property.

I love the way the wind has exposed some of the last streaky chest feathers so the full pattern can be seen on some of them.

Thanks.

I forgot to check the tail feathers.  I remember noticing they were visible when I took the photo, and thinking those were going to be useful.
