Coopers Hawk or Sharp Shinned Hawk?

Recommended Posts

Hi, not great with hawks but I think this is a Coopers based on flattish head and darker cap. Hard to see the tip of the tail but seems rounded which is more like Coopers than Sharp-shinned. Would wait for a more experienced birder to confirm.

Welcome to Whatbird!

I agree with a Cooper's Hawk. Note the very bulky overall, relatively large, blocky head with a light nape creating a capped appearance (Sharp-shinned would have a dark nape on a rounded head creating a hooded appearance), eyes close to the front of the head, and thick legs.

Thanks, I have seen him 4 times, but this is the first time I was able to get to my camera in time.  Did not notice till after that I missed the tip of his tail
