zoutedrop
Taken this past weekend off the coast of San Francisco. Maybe a Marbled Murrelet?
BigOly
I believe your I.D. is correct.
psweet
This looks better for a young Pigeon Guillemot. The white on the back appears to be on the wing coverts -- Marbled have all-dark wings with pale markings on the scapulars starting to develop about now. The bill also appears rather long and heavy for a Marbled Murrelet.

zoutedrop
Thanks guys. What threw me on this was I could not find the black head pattern in any other photos. I appreciate your help and support.
