Immature male Scarlet Tanager. Perhaps only the 10th county record, and the first one in over 12 years. Found by legendary birder and artist, Keith Hansen. Suuuper døpe.

My most recent rare birds-only the last one was found first by me. Gray-tailed Tattler Florida Keys, Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, Alachua County, FL and Grasshopper Sparrow, Duval County, FL not super rare on the sparrow seems like we get a few every winter.

Some good stuff at the property this week.

•Extremely late Eastern Phoebe, the last bird I expected to see in chilling NW winds and 20 degree temperatures. Late record for the county by almost two months, and probably some sort of northernmost/late record for the state.

•4th county record Saw-whet
•Evening Grosbeaks! Had a high count of five flyovers yesterday. This area seems to draw them in irruption years.

• Continuing decent numbers of migrant White-winged Crossbills.

•Not flagged, but pretty unexpected, an American Robin was the latest Nov-Dec record for the county. There are a couple records from Jan-feb, would those be early or late records? I dunno.

While I’m sure there’s a ton of records not on eBird that would challenge these numbers, it’s still kinda fun to fill in these red dots on the filter.

I'm three for three on seeing Snowy Owls in the last year. This one is earlier than I expected. Wondering if this isn't an irruption year. Other photos and checklist can be seen here.

From Project Snowstorm's website;

"In coming updates we’ll share details on all of that, plus our plans for fresh research this winter, during what may be shaping up to be a significant irruption into the Northeast and upper Great Lakes, with reports as least as far south as Long Island, NY."

Last couple days have been pretty good for rare birds. Yesterday a friend and I found a Spotted Towhee, late Indigo Bunting, and Lesser Black-backed Gull (not rare, but flagged). Today someone found a Red-throated Loon and Long-tailed Duck, so I chased and found both. If you want to see the checklists, you can find yesterday's here and today's here. Crazy thing it that all were within a few miles of each other. Photos are bad because all were pretty far away from me.Lesser Black-backed GullLong-tailed DuckRed-throated Loon
