This was taken in Costa Rica last January ....

Cool photo!

Left: Talamanca Hummingbird (note green overall with iridescent speckled head).

Right: Lesser Violetear (note green overall with violet ear patch; the Mexican Violetear lives more north).

Note that the Magnificent Hummingbird got split into the Talamanca and Rivoli's Hummingbird and that the Green Violetear got split into the Mexican and Lesser Violetear.

Agree, although I see Mexican Violetear and Rivoli's Hummingbird here. Your pic is also a great size comparison shot for the two!

That was my point 🙂 I live in Guatemala so I see the other half of the newly-divided species; so I haven't see the two Costa Rica species.
