DaveOl
This died on my patio table and was probably eaten by some bird. I have a book on insects, but the closest thing I found was a tree hopper. It was almost 2 inches long. DSC03863 by DaveOl1, on Flickr
The Bird Nuts
Looks to be a Katydid of some type.
DaveOl
Thanks, I'll look that up. It almost looks like a grasshopper with a hump on it's back.
DaveOl
I looked up katydid on the computer and found a True Katydid that looks just like it.
tclarkwood
Here in the south, they sing the second half of the summer. They sing one song during the morning and into the heat of the day and then they sing another song after dark. I know they are not literally singing. I’m always amazed at how a little creature like this can make a noise that can be heard 1/2 mile away or more.
tclarkwood
I mispoke about the morning sounds and late summer sounds. They are Cicadas not Katydids.
