This bird was seen in southern California on Jan 23 near Santa Ysabel.  It was in a flock of about a dozen.  I believe it is some type of dove but I can't find a match.  The photos are not good since the light was poor.

Looks like a Rock Pigeon to me, they're quite variable. Note the shorter, blunter tipped tail than a Mourning Dove, darker overall coloration than Eurasian Collared-Dove, darker and not patterned like a Band-tailed Pigeon.

Is the white eye ring within the range of variability of the Rock Pigeon?

All most every pattern is possible in a Rock Pigeon.

Thanks for the help.

So in the future if it doesn't fit any other dove it's a pigeon 😉.

Pretty much. And the eye ring is always present, in various colors, from black to white.
