Not sure, but likely an Olympic Gull... I thought it was a gigantic gull towering over the people when I first saw the photo! :classic_laugh:

Western Gull x Glaucous-winged Gull. It's the most common hybrid on the west coast.

Is this bird in its 1st or 2nd winter? If its first winter its not Western x Glaucous-winged due to pink bill. Looks very messy and worn.

I'd go with a wonderfully ugly California Gull. Parallel-sided bill with extensive pink, long wings.

Why it looks like this in early January is a complete mystery, though. This looks like a bird in its first plumage cycle in May or June.
