blackburnian
Why doesn’t eBird include Hawaii in the ABA area?
AlexHenry
Not sure if this the right place to post this question? The ABA recently annexed Hawaii. Only a few years ago. It was never part of the ABA area. Hawaii should not be a part of the ABA region. The connection (with the US) is geopolitical, not ecological. Hawaii is not in the North American ecoregion - the climate, the plants, and the animals are starkly distinct from continental North America. I’m not sure why eBird doesn’t include Hawaii in the ABA. I don’t pay any attention to Hawaii as I have never been there before. Perhaps someday though - all those endmics! Not to mention beautiful beaches, ocean waters warm enough to comfortably swim (unlike northern CA) etc...
blackburnian
@AlexHenry Yes, I wasn’t sure where to post but since one day I figured I’d travel there... I am aware that the ABA didn’t add Hawaii until 2016, but four years seems a significant lag for eBird to catch up?
