greetings. new. what is "lifer"?

A "lifer" is when you see a bird species that you've never seen before. They're very exciting!

I got Blue Grosbeak, Short-Billed Dowitcher, Upland Sandpiper, Dickcissel, and Greater Yellowlegs as lifers today. (Didn't get great pics of the Dickcissel unfortunately)

This could go in either the rare birds category or this one. Fork Tailed Storm Petrel, California bird 399, seen from our boat 30 miles from shore. 8 miles SSW of the Farallons

We found a rare Leach's Storm-petrel as well, we couldn't get any photos of it. I've seen it before, but it was California Bird 400!

My friend Lucas who was on the boat with us managed to get a picture of the Leach’s  storm petrel.

I found a Lest Flycatcher! The reasons to be excited about it:

1 I correctly identified a Empidonax Flycatcher.:classic_cool:

2 Lifer!

3 Yardbird!

4 Rarity!
