Lifers

Recommended Posts

This year I have been hitting my local county for a few birds that shouldn't be too hard to get. Yesterday I thought I had found my county Yellow Warbler.  I shot a few frames, saw a dark undertail, and suddenly realized it was not a Yellow Warbler. I got a few more shots, none of them great, but still diagnostic for a rare Wilson's Warbler! It is a lifer and a great county bird. There is one other record--historical from 1931.

Aren't they seen during migration on the great lakes? There are few and far between records for my county, last one was seen in 2019.

Yeah thousands of scoters migrate through the Great Lakes, but the weird thing is they’re almost all female/immature birds. I feel like a read an article explaining some theories behind this,  but I can remember exactly where it was.

Wow, nice! We almost never see males here in the inland states.

I almost decided to post this, but I was afraid it might not be taken in the spirit it was meant in. Probably a good thing I decided not to.

So so sad being made to look at those Black Scoters! I know what you can do though, so you don't have to look at those female/immature Scoters. You can not go birding where they are, and then you won't have to suffer so."
