Lifers

Recommended Posts

Trip up North got me 4 lifers.  2 of them as I stood in the driveway of my VRBO to drive around for 4 hours to find those exact same birds.

  1. Pine Grosbeak - driveway. Didn’t realize they were so big.
  2. Sharp-tailed Grouse
  3. White-winged Crossbill - driveway.  Thought I heard them but missed them.  Hoped they would come back and about 20 minutes later they did.
  4. Ruffed Grouse - no pics.  The dogs and I flushed them up.

It always shocks me whenever I see one, even though I've seen them several times! They are huge! (Are they the ABA area's largest finch?)

Well, I went over to Maine and looked for the Steller’s Sea Eagle this morning without luck. However, the Barnacle Goose in the area was a nice replacement lifer! Also had a lot of fun with birding on the coast again.

Stopped at 4 spots on my drive south for school, and was successful on 2 stops. Got the Northern Lapwing in Maryland, and saw Brown-headed Nuthatches outside of Nashville! It was snaining, so I didn't grab my camera, but the little buggers are so cute! I saw one doing the typical nuthatch crawl, but then saw three squished together eating something in a branchpit! Also, I didn't realize they had little mohawks!

Aw, rum luck!  Somebody on here needs to get it.

Speaking of which, if anyone wants to be in the ME, MA, or Steller's Sea-Eagle GroupMe's who isn't, shoot me a message.
