Dan P
On 8-5-2022, I went to Malibu Lagoon in Malibu, CA for the first time. It was only the second time I had been to a coastal location. I got at least eight new lifers (unless I've misidentified anything): Snowy Plover, Semipalmated Plover, Black-bellied Plover, Ruddy Turnstone Elegant Tern, Heerman's Gull, Pelagic Cormorant and Brown Pelican.

dragon49
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher. Recently, Merlin had flagged the audio for the species twice at a different hotspot, however I didn't take credit for the lifer, as I didn't see the birds, and I was suspicious of the faint audio mixed in with lots of other calls going on at once. Today, however, I did see two Blue-gray Gnatcatchers in a tree at the time Merlin recognized the call, so I'm finally taking credit. Unfortunately, I was unable to get any photos. So, the Blue-gray Gnatcatcher will have to join the Chimney Swift, and the White-eyed Vireo, as my only lifers without photo evidence. https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/476481581

dragon49
Two lifers today on a short walk! Carolina Wren: https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/477180971 https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/477187471 Louisiana Waterthrush: https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/477177901 Unfortunately, they are going to have to join the Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Chimney Swift, and White Eyed Vireo, as my lifers without photo evidence. I did see the Louisiana Waterthrush, but I had a 0% chance of capturing the surprise flyover. I've also seen Chimney Swifts, and Blue-gray Gnatcatchers, so the White Eyed Vireo belongs in its own unseen category. Anyway, I have my new friend Merlin to thank for these IDs! dragon49
Too late to edit my last post, but I do realize the inaccuracy. I'm posting to mention the Carolina Wren belongs in my unseen category as well.

Yeah! @Bombycilla Cedorum is going to Castle Valley Academy so I got to do a weekend of birding out there! It was AWESOME. Also got (lifers) Say's Phoebe, Black-chinned and Calliope Hummingbirds, and a completely random Juniper Titmouse! Sorry I didn't tell y'all about the trip in advance, but I've made it a habit not to tell people online when I'm going to be away from home. BlueJay
I've been in contact with one of the guides from my Kenyan safari about two months back, and had recently sent some pictures to them for any possible identification. They wrote back today, and it turns out I got 5 more lifers on that trip. They are White-winged Widowbird, White-rumped Swallow, Pin-tailed Whydah, Blue-billed Teal, and Ruppell's Griffin.

You had to go to Africa to see a Pin-tailed Whydah? You could have just come to Los Angeles.
