dragon49
Common Myna. Not classified as rare in my county, but there have only been around 30 reports year to date. I found out that the best place to find them is in a shopping center parking lot around an hour's drive from me, so headed out there and found a few hanging around one of the large garbage bins: https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/549525021
neilpa
Got eight lifers in Kauai last week. The Kilauea Point NWR and lighthouse is amazing, might be the coolest place I've birded. White-rumped Shama* Rose-ringed Parakeet* Hawaiian Duck Brown Booby Laysan Albatross Red-tailed Tropicbird Red-footed Booby Wedge-tailed Shearwater * Non-native Had to skip the mountain forest hikes since it was a family trip with the baby so no honeycreepers or other high elevation birds.

Ty - I had enough to claim the lifer when both Owls started calling around 25 minutes before sunset. I got some decent audio for proof as well. However, there was NO WAY I was going to leave the area without photos while there was still enough light to take them. I didn't see the first owl leave the woods, but 12 minutes after sunset, which was 11 minutes before last light, I got excited when noticed a bird shape on one of the trees across the canal. I got a lot of photos of this individual. Then, 4 minutes later, the bird's mate showed up and I was able to get photos of both of them. I kept taking photos until just about actual darkness came, which is around the time both Owls flew away. Here is a better photo, better cropped as well: https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/551608991 Edited April 1 by dragon49
dragon49
I finally got my nemesis Northern Flicker. It's now one of my six lifers without photo evidence, and one of three lifers that I haven't seen. https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/552814361 Edited April 3 by dragon49

Yeah…I know you got the male and female last winter(20221-22). This year, there’s an adult male and an immature male, but they’re much less reliable than the ones that you got. Of course these are the ones I get, not the more reliable ones! This bird was refound two days ago, and the immature male hasn’t been seen since mid March. Mile square is an amazing oriole spot, there’s also been two ORORs this winter, and a couple wintering BUORs and HOORs. Right now it’s insane, there’s lots of BUORs and HOORs, along with two BAORs and two ORORs! Edited April 4 by IKLland

I think they have shut the stake-out down--I am not sure if the bird is still there. The local birders had been coordinating visits, but I think it got to be too much for the homeowners. We were asked to not post our lists until given the go-ahead, so that is why I am so late getting it on whatbird.

dragon49
Leach's Storm-Petrel. My observation made the county rare bird alert. The experts on-site told me that the strong winds were blowing in just the right direction to bring the birds into view. I started getting alerts this morning, with multiple sightings, one with >200 individuals. The initial sighting was around 40 minutes from me, but reports all had the birds flying south along the coast toward me, so I was confident they would show up at a local pier by the time I could get there. As I pointed out in my checklist notes, I’m glad the local gurus were on-site, as I needed them to point out the birds. I didn’t know how small the Leach's Storm-Petrels were and wasn’t familiar with their low-flight patterns which at times caused the birds to almost touch the surf: https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/556645021
