I got three lifers today!

Alder Flycatcher - https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/608406805

Yellow Warbler - https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/608406857

1200

And finally, my nemesis Worm-eating warbler.  I had to loop the boardwalk three times to finally get this one:

I think the second photo is a different species, maybe Magnolia, but I'm not sure. Those flank streaks...

I took down the observation.  I do see the flank streak.  But why is the bird so grey?  This is why I thought it was a female/immature Yellow Warbler.

I believe it's so dull because it might be an immature female. Sometimes the Prairie Warblers here in California are like this. We mostly only get immatures.

I've been going over my life list spreadsheet very very carefully, and I noticed that I hadn't added Chihuahuan Meadowlark or Woodhouse's Scrub-Jay, so I've gained two armchair lifers. Years ago after I had already seen both forms/species, I made a note that they could be split in the future and noted where and when I had seen them.

This afternoon I went over my Western Palearctic (Europe and Israel) life list very carefully, and noticed that 7 species had been split since I compiled that list decades ago, so I picked up even more armchair lifers. 2 species were intra-European splits according to the Dutch Birding document I was consulting, both of them wagtails. The other 5 were e.g. Wilson's Snipe being split off from the Eurasian Common Snipe. So that's 8 lifers in the past month -- these 5, the 2 from my August activity, and the actual lifer American Flamingos a few days ago.

That's actually 10 lifers ... 😳
