KevAtty
Saw this hawk in downtown Columbus this afternoon. Horrible shot with phone but thought someone can help with ID given the tail markings. Thanks.
AlexHenry
Head and body shape and tail length point to Red-shouldered Hawk being the only possibility. Cooper’s Hawks have longer tails, and are more slender overall. Red-tailed Hawks are bulkier overall.

AlexHenry
Don’t overestimate the importance of plumage features in ID (such as the tail markings), lest you underestimate the importance of size, shape and bodily proportions. Buteos in many cases are best ID’d by shape because plumage is so variable.

RobinHood
Phew - my first reaction was also Cooper's, based largely on head profile although I agree with Alex that the tail does look quite short, but Sharp-shinned does not fit. The downtown location was a clincher.
