Green Winged Teal Question

Recommended Posts

I had 2 Eurasian x American hybrid teals at the same spot a week apart. Are they different birds?
My thinking was that they are both hybrids, but bird 2 looks closer to the Eurasian end of the spectrum (less of a vertical white stripe, but still a noticeable hint of one, stronger face pattern), so they are different individuals.

But they are pretty rare in the area (3rd and 4th county records) so I don’t want to be mistakenly calling an individual bird 2 different birds.

You're also looking at different sides on the two birds, and just because they don't match, doesn't mean that the photos are not of the same bird.

Yes I was wondering about this. So probably not safe to assume they are different birds, unless I can see them both simultaneously?
