January 17th, 2020.  HItchcock Woods, Aiken, SC.  Mixed pine / hardwood, hilly, sandy.  Immediate area was recently controlled burned.  Bird was very active, hopping across the ground.  It's this ground-scavenging behavior that gives me pause.  Other birds in the area were White-breasted Nuthatches.

The first photo is quite small but shows two wing bars.  The second photo is larger.  I don't see an eye ring but that could be just the resolution.  These are the only two shots.

Thanks.  It looked like the Pines I get in the backyard but I don't recall ever seeing one soil its toes.
