Herring gull?

Recommended Posts

Hmmmm I'm not sure about that, iris looks kinda dark and mantle and upperwings look too dark gray for Herring. Bird overall looks stockier and shorter-winged than Herring. Clean white head in winter, without the brown streaking expected on the head and neck of a Herring Gull. I think Western Gull parentage is suggested in this bird, possibly pure Western Gull, which is a pretty good bird inland.

Herring ruled out by the skirt. Adult Western Gull or a Puget Sound Gull back-crossed to Western for multiple generations. In other words, Western Gulls seems fine.
