A#Birdguy
Got a bad pic of this large hawk with white on its back as it flew away. Taken 2/24/2020 from Flamingo, FL (the southern most point in mainland US.)
BigOly
Just a guess but maybe leucistic Osprey.
A#Birdguy
thanks. At first I thought is was an Osprey -- seemd to be about the same size.
Melierax
Is it just me or does the bird not look like any sort of raptor? The head is very skinny and the tail is weird. If it is a raptor, the way the wings are held would force it to be an Osprey, but I'm just not seeing it. Maybe I'm just looking at it wrong. Since it does seem to have one white flight feather and not on the other side, I agree with leucism.
The Bird Nuts
I agree with Melierax that it doesn't look like a raptor. I was thinking a gannet or pelican or something like that.
A#Birdguy
Yes, it looks like its got an out of place white feather in the L wings.
Melierax
FWIW, I initially thought Brown Pelican but wasnt sure of their range. The large belly and skinny head look good for it.
A#Birdguy
Melierax: What Bird Range map shows them along the southern tip of Florida year round. Thanks.
BigOly
The size of the feet looks small for Pelican?
A#Birdguy
BihOly: Agreed.
Melierax
The angle is super weird, so I wouldnt bank on feet size. But they do look a little small.
A#Birdguy
Somebody should make a bird guide of nothing but birds flying away from me -- that's the angle I get most often. 3

A#Birdguy
Thanks everyone. I agree. My Peterson doesn't show the back of an immature White ibis.
