Jim W
I'm curious what folks think this might be. Picture was taken in Cape Coral, FL a couple of weeks ago. The bird was near the edge of a pond (I assume freshwater), but within a few hundred yards of saltwater canals. Unfortunately, the picture was taken from a 12th floor balcony through a screen. When I first saw it, I assumed it was a heron. Now I'm wondering if it might be some sort of rail. If it is a rail, I'd imagine it will be impossible to nail down the species with this crappy picture. First attached picture is unedited. Second picture is cropped, brightened a bit and sharpened. Thanks in advance!
akandula
Looks like a Green Heron, with the compact shape, greenish body/cap, and chestnut-colored neck.

I do not have a problem with it being a Green Heron. But how did we eliminate little blue?

Tony Leukering
And longer legs. And different body coloration.
