Unusual color for a female Cardinal.

Recommended Posts

My friend says something is wrong with my digital camera because female Cardinals are not supposed to be this color. These photos were taken in Pell City, Alabama in February. The birds are still here but I have not seen two of them together. They tend to stay in the brush, close to the ground, but venture out to feed fromĀ  a small feeder just about 5 yards from the brush, Any sudden movement spooks them immediately. They will occasionally perch on the feeder. I took these photos from a distanceĀ  of about fifteen yards. They will mingle with the males while feeding but seem to stay by themselves.
