Tree swallow or purple Martin

Since we can only see blue-green upperparts in this photo, sex cannot be determined. We can reliably assess sex only through the presence of a cloacal protuberance (which makes it a male) or a brood patch (which makes it a female). An exception is that some Tree Swallows can be sexed by wing chord length.
