So what is happening with Whatbird?

Recommended Posts

So I know people have brought these things up a lot but I dont think anybody has gotten answers.

#1 How come when Whatbird returned from the crash only a few topics were replaced and even after general agreement on what topics needed to be replaced no off topic or general topic was added?

#2 Why do I run out of reactions when I only use two after not using any for the past several days?

Feeling left out, Melierax?  :classic_laugh:

Seriously now, and don't take this personally, but I'd rather not welcome you into the unanswered club, although I think it's inevitable.

What we need at this difficult time is an enormous super secret underground bunker full of hackers who have traded their hoodies and ski masks for floppy birders hats, and who have committed their collective energies to once and for all resolving the glitches, crashes, hiccups, and general frustrations of the Whatbird Forum, not to mention the altogether inexcusable and arbitrary, if not punitive, limit on reactions! Phew!!! Would anyone like to diagram that sentence?

No, but I'd like to see you go to the 'Young Birders' discussion and explain sentence diagramming.

Really? I have more confidence in the Young Birders over there. That is one sharp group, and a bunch of them are or were homeschooled!!!

I second that down to the floppy birders hats

I'd like to see discussions locked after a suitable period of inactivity, say 1 week.  If nobody has weighed in after that amount of time, block additional comments.  Nothing like refreshing the screen and see 40 zombies that were dug up in ten minutes just to add 'I agree', pushing any newer, unanswered questions to the second page (or farther).

I agree with this, because sometime I will be just click on “Next unread topic” and not realize how far back I am going in-till it is to late

I'm guilty of that...until these last 2 weeks I didn't have time every day to peruse the posts.  Silver lining.

ok so i ran out of likes this morning at like 11, and now they have rest somehow, I thought they were on a 24hour cycle?

I mean I am not complaining, but still confused

Yeah, that's the main issue I have - there's no reasoning behind how the like system works. We were told 24 hour cycle, 15 likes per cycle, but so far that is not at all the case and it seems to be random. There have been days where I haven't been able to react even once.

ok I think I  may have figured out the likes guys, so I think that each like is on its own 24 hour cycle, so if you liked someones post at 9am(using just one like) then used no more likes for for a while and used the rest(14) of them at 7 30pm you would have no likes in till 9am the next morning at witch point you would get back the single like you used yesterday morning.

That's the best explanation I've read yet.  I've been certain that's what's happening, I just haven't been able articulate it.  Nicely done.

It sounds logical enough, but I'm convinced it doesn't always work out that way. More than once I have apparently used up my likes in the evening, only to learn about it the next morning. From that point I'm pretty sure it has, on more than one occasion, been more like 48 hours before I can like again. I'm starting to suspect there are demerits for trying to like something before you actually can.

That's definitely what I've been thinking as well. I just ran out, and I counted up how many I had within the past 24 hours... I used 10. Maybe the limit is 10?

not sure, it might possibly be 10, i also wonder if maybe using a reaction other than a like is worth more, like laughing at something is worth two likes or something
