This one's got me - No idea what bird this is

Recommended Posts

That is an Eastern Phoebe.  Note the brownish colored back with a darker head, weak wingbars, no eyering, completely black bill, upright posture, and large-headed appearance.

This was in Charlotte, NC. In some woods right by the neighborhood of my friend's subdivision. THANK YOU! First time I have heard of this bird. Eastern Phoebe... Thanks Again.

The upright posture is a good clue that it is a flycatcher.  Behavior is also a good clue - they'll sit fairly still on a branch then fly out to catch an insect then return to the perch.  Eastern Phoebes wag their tails when they're perched more than other flycatchers.

im in cabarrus co., if you keep your eyes open, youll notice a lot of these. certainly not as proliferous as house finches or sparrows, but i see them pretty regularly. and like @The Bird Nuts said, a quick and easy id is the bobbing tail.
